God is our teacher

As a teacher, I have always believed that it is important to have a variety of people teaching - men, women, people of color, young, old - because we have all been given different gifts. 

We teach to children who come from so many different life experiences.

We never know who will be able to reach a particular child in the way he or she needs.

Eternal God is our teacher. The beauty of the Earth has been given to us to show us the way. The experience of being alive is to be part of the creation of our God.

A person consumed with fear and hate cannot have this experience.

The sermon in church today was about Jesus comparing the sheep and the goats,

 those who saw the need of others and provided for their needs,

 

and those who did not.

   

This is what counts.

God created each of us to be unique. 

 God desires that all of us participate in the glory of creation and the wondrous love of omnipresent God.

My teacher is Jesus, his life and his words, his ultimate sacrifice. He brings me to a greater understanding of the unknowable. He speaks to my heart of the way to live fully in the goodness of our Mother/Father God.

Jesus is my teacher. He speaks to me.

But there are other teachers, others who show the way to understanding the ways of God. When Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life, I don’t believe he meant his person.

I believe he meant what he taught throughout his ministry. We know God from the way we treat the least of these. 

We know God when we live with the knowledge that we are equally loved by God.

Just like with teachers, not every child will learn the lesson. Few will become expert in what has been taught. But every step we come closer is a step towards the kingdom of heaven where all are cared for, where all are valued, where all are loved.
