pay it forward

lord, let me know my end and the number of my days
so that i may know how short my life is.
psalms 39:5

precious few of us will be remembered a hundred years after we are gone.

even fewer after a thousand.

each life that has preceded ours is precious.

each life has held great meaning to family and friends, for hunter-gatherers as well as for service workers and mechanics and presidents.

our life is a microscopic bit on the continuum of human existence.

What then do we leave, these millions and millions of souls who have lived and died on this earth?

my brother-in-law was an outstanding visual artist, but his art will not live on, even into the next century. his art was personal. there is a number to its life.

even the greatest art we know has the shortest of lives in the passing of time.

so what is our life?

525,600 minutes.

it is how we live it. it is who we are, what we say, what we do for others.

it is how we pay it forward.

if we are to choose good over bad, we must overwhelm the bad with good.

bad takes more thinking and stays with us longer.

giving good must be a daily choice.

love makes that choice.

love is greater than art.

love passes from generation to generation.

the love i give to my children is part of love my parents gave to me.

the love my children pass to others is the love i gave to them.

what is it that will live after dale's life?

love.

love passed on from generation to generation.

it is all any of us leave.
